StepTrakLite Distance and Energy Calculator

What's this? The STL Distance & Calorie Calculator

A free steps-to-distance and Calories converter. Works in both imperial and metric units. The distance, pace, METs, and Calories will update automatically as you change the number of steps, stride length, body weight, and duration.

The average man's stride length is 2.5 feet. A stride length of 2.2 feet is average for a woman. To calculate your stride length, walk a course of known length with STL and divide the distance in feet or meters by your number of steps. For best results, walk at least 100 feet or 30 meters to do this calculation.

1st week of Summer (or Winter) walking challenge

Hey, STL users.

The 21st of June is the solstice, which means the beginning of Summer for us here in the Northern hemisphere. (For our Aussie friends and others south of the equator, it's the beginning of Winter.) I thought it would be a good time to do a week-long Twitter-based STL walking challenge. Use STL to track and tweet your steps for a week, and I'll tally them up. The person with the most steps for the seven day period wins.

Here are the rules:

STL is back — do the happy dance!

After a week of going round and round with Apple tech support, StepTrakLite is back in the App Store. No explanation of what was wrong, just a brief note saying they fixed it.

Hah! I'm thrilled. This was extended and incredibly frustrating, but at least its fixed.

STL _still_ yanked

Well, it's been over a week now. I've been going around and around with Apple support folks on a daily basis, and STL is still not back in the App Store. This has nothing to do with censorship, iPhone OS 3.0, or anything else that would make good sense. The itunesconnect portal says I need to execute an agreement, but the apple developer portal says I already have and won't give me the opportunity to do it again. And nobody seems to know what to do about this.

Needles to say this is incredibly… Continue

STL yanked (temporarily)

Hey, STL users.

Just to let you know -- we found out today that Apple has yanked STL due to some kind of bureaucratic screwup relating to the customer agreement. (They say we need to accept the latest version, but when I try to it tells me we already have.) This came to my attention this morning and I'm still working on getting it sorted out. More soon, hopefully.
