Why doesn't StepTrakLite walk for me?

Because you haven't asked nicely enough.

I have asked very nicely, but I suspect that StepTrakLite is being coy. Is there some mechanism for plying the software with wine or other spirits? How about the developers?

I have an iPod Touch 2G 16GB
Basically I turn off wi-fi when walking to conserve battery life. Then I get home, turn it on and try to launch StepTrack Lite again. I get a black screen for about 10-15 seconds, then Touch jumps out of the application back to the main screen.
If I turn my wireless off, it works just fine.
Suggestions?

Hey, Fishbone.

Thanks for the report -- I've actually had the same problem with my own 1st generation iPhone. it turns out that the problem is in the analytics service we linked STL 1.1 against. Sometimes the data being stored by the analytics gets corrupted, and when that happens STL won't start unless the network is off.

We will have an update out soon that strips out the analytics, since the data being provided looked suspect anyway.

In the mean time, try uninstalling STL (press and hold the icon till everything starts jiggling like a bad acid trip, then push the little "x" icon next to the STL icon) and then going back to the app store and re-installing the app. This should wipe the bad stored analytics data and get everything working again.

Please give this work-around a try and post back with the results. Hopefully the new bug-fix update isn't more than a week or two away, depending on the good graces of the Apple reviewers.

Already tried once and it did it again but I'll give it another shot. Any planned release date for the new version?

I think we will have something submitted by the end of the week. My main iPhone developer is out right now. Apple turns AppStore submissions around in the neighborhood of a week, but for a bugfix submission it may be faster.

Awesome, looking forward to it

Hey, Fishbone.

I forgot to say in my previous post -- remove STL, then sync your device with iTunes, then re-install. That should fix the problem in the short run.

Back with an update. No luck, still crashing. It does so regardless of wifi state. I think it doesn't like numbers over 3k steps?
I am uninstalling for now and waiting for the update

Hey, Fishbone.

Thanks for getting back to me. I believe that the problem will be fixed in the next update. Hang on -- Apple is still reviewing it but we expect it out any day now.

Thanks for your patience.

New version is now available, just really, really subtly. See the latest blog post for info.
